During my last dental checkup, the hygienist went to floss my teeth and I asked her what floss she was using. "Glide" I told her to just skip the flossing! Next time I will bring my own floss. To the best of my knowledge, regular Oral B (NOT GLIDE) is just waxed nylon. It's one of the few that can get between my tightly packed teeth and hold up under flossing. Please let me know if you think there is an issue with this one. I will look for other ones, but not sure they will hold up to flossing my teeth! Thanks for posting this - I knew about it but hadn't heard about the silk-based alternatives.
Tight contacts can make flossing miserable! I don’t know enough about the product that you are using but I do know that the mainstream floss brands are now offering PFAS free floss. Consumer demands are making changes in their product lines!
Zebra is a good brand! Floss and toothpaste. She also does NOT include hydroxyapatite like a lot of alternative toothpastes mistakenly think is helpful to teeth! https://yayzebra.com
Jessica -- the ingredient list says it's made from recycled polyester. It doesn't mention silk. The problems with floss caused me to think also about toothbrushes -- I suspect most toothbrush bristles are made from nylon and would pose similar problems.
I am going to edit my post with the images from Better Biom that include the testing done to demonstrate that the recycled material is free from forever chemicals.
I asked the company about the ingredients and whether it's called silk because of the feel and not the actual content. They responded promptly. Here's the relevant part. (I wonder how they know whether "recycled" polyester contains PFAS or other things?) "Thank you for reaching out. Our Silk Dental Floss is crafted from eco-friendly recycled polyester. It is free from harmful chemicals, including parabens, sulfates, BPAs, PFAS, and PFOA, ensuring a safe and sustainable choice for your dental care.
While our Silk floss is made from recycled polyester, the name reflects the soft, silky texture and sensation it offers during use."
Wow, thank you for clarifying! I had written to them about specifics prior to writing this and trying the material. They mentioned nothing about this in their communications to me.

I'm relieved I don't have to resort to horse hair for flossing ;-).

I am going to be reaching out to this company to try their products. I love that they stand behind their faith and their freedom!
Is Dani correct that hydroxyapatite is not helpful?
I heard her on this podcast https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/culture-apothecary-with-alex-clark/id1507839530?i=1000673098653! She had a discount code ALEX.
It is great to see so many brands coming available to counter the supermarket brands. Thank you for sharing about Zebra.

I am following up with them for clarification as to how they know their floss if free of these materials.

Thanks for the product description! I used to use a J&J fiber floss they took off the market due to all the Teflon-like floss.
12%! I thought the majority of people did... Thanks for a great look at the topic.
