My dentist once told me that if he were stranded on a desert island and (for some inexplicable reason) could only have one oral hygiene tool with him, he would choose floss over a toothbrush. I took him seriously and have flossed every night since then!

This is excellent! I tell patients a similar story. If I were deserted on an island (one that had electricity of course) I would want my water flosser.

Deserted island with electricity - sounds like paradise to me LOL.

Exactly! Clean teeth and power, what more could we need 😂

Thanks Jessica.

I'm a regular string flosser - and dentists have always commented on this ("your gums don't bleed!"). My teeth don't feel clean unless I've flossed. I hear how water flossing is more effective, but it sounds awkward and messy.

In terms of picking up new dental hygiene habits, I might try the tongue scraping first. Off to find your writings on that!

If your can floss effectively without bleeding, I am all for it! I am daily shocked at the number of people who refuse to floss and it might be a longshot to consider water flossing in this same population. As a dentist, I am struggling to find ways to motivate patients to improve their hygiene. Glad your dentist has noticed your hard work!!
