I attended a conservative Christian college for my undergraduate degree. A school that fought in a Supreme Court ruling to be completely independent from governmental intrusion. This was one of many examples of what drew me to the school for my education and is why I have given faithfully to them for almost 25 years. Rumblings in the last year started to cause me to question what direction the school was taking. Then, a friend sent me a review from a current student (at the college) suggesting that his experience was calling him to witness a diversion from the school’s original value system. Since my friend is college hunting with her child, I told her I would follow up on her request to know more about what the college ACTUALLY stands to support and teach.
On my list of things to do yesterday, was to write to my school and to request a conference call with someone who could answer some challenging questions. Prior to composing my letter, I received an email from the college about a Leadership Conference to be held for specific level donors in April at a venue the requires proof of vaccination. Here is some of the verbiage:
All attendees of this Washington, D.C., Leaders Club event must be fully vaccinated in accordance with the January 15, 2022 mandate issued by D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser. You will need to have proof of vaccination in hand in order to engage in most activities. This mandate specifically covers "Indoor event and meeting establishments" along with many other buildings and facilities. Most of our itinerary stops for the weekend are included in this mandate.
Please know that XYZ College still supports individual freedom, as it always has. Our decision to host this event, in these times, is out of a deep desire to connect with our Leaders Club members once again. We respect the individual freedom of those who would prefer not to attend due to the current vaccination mandate in Washington, D.C. In no way does our decision to hold this event indicate a philosophical alignment with any political decisions made by the District of Columbia on vaccinations or other Covid-19 policies.
Our decision to choose Washington, D.C., and The Mandarin-Oriental Hotel stems from a fall 2019 contract we already had in place with the hotel. When we could not hold our Leaders Club event there as planned in spring 2020 due to the pandemic, they graciously extended our contract to 2021. It was also not feasible to host the event in 2021, and again they extended the contract to 2022. However, we are now bound to host this event in 2022 without further extension, or be required to pay the remainder of this significant contract. We have chosen to hold the event rather than to incur the financial loss.
My response to them:
I am a '97 graduate of XYZ, an annual donor and both of my children are attending ABC Christian School (founded by two XYZ alumni). The timing of your letter about the Leaders' Club Weekend strikes me as having some Divine intervention. A note to leadership at XYZ was on my list of things to do today and the email I received confirms the concerns I have.
First, and not presented in order of significance, is the query expressed by several parents at my children's school about the direction of XYZ. They are not alumni but they have juniors and seniors considering colleges like Hilldsdale, Liberty and XYZ. They reached out to me to say that they are reading reviews online from current students that XYZ is starting to lose its core conservative values. I could not answer the question honestly but your staff does know that this was something I voiced to them prior to making my 2021 annual contribution. Perhaps I could schedule a time to speak with you about these concerns because I know more and more parents do not want to send their kids to a college to be indoctrinated into the woke left's theology.
Second, the irony of a Leaders' Club being offered by our conservative school, that honors personal choice, to be held at a venue that practices outright discrimination, elicits deep concern about the actual leadership at XYZ. I think you did a nice job of spelling out the history of why this venue was selected. But, now is the time to stand up to the tyranny and segregation by speaking with our feet and our wallets. It is not time to cave and offer an 'oh well', we don't agree but we are going to select against certain donors, better luck next time. These donors are likely your true leaders because they were able to look at the totality of the pandemic and recognize the atrocities being inflicted by both our government and the medical establishment. These donors have chosen NOT to take a novel therapeutic never before used in humans, lacking animal studies, with no long term safety data and produced by companies 100% shielded by liability. These same donors are very much awake to the puzzle pieces of COVID that fit so well in with the agenda of Klaus Schwab and the World Economic Forum. These same donors are likely being more responsible with where their money is being donated in an effort to not be contributing to any institution that supports segregation/discrimination, to any institution that is taking a knee to the globalist agenda, or to any institution corrupting the true word of God by calling themselves a Christian church, school or organization.
Sadly, money drives many current decisions and often trumps doing the right thing. I am grateful that our founding fathers did not see it this way. I am grateful for the sacrifice that they made to establish this great nation. My family has made many sacrifices these past two years to be sure that we are upholding Thomas Jefferson's words: The cost of freedom is eternal vigilance. That vigilance means we stand up and speak out when we know something is despicably wrong. Standing up may cost us time, money and friends/followers but in the end, those of us who do, can rest knowing that we stood for freedom and liberty.
Let me finish with spinning the question about this venue and the money you have deposited for this event. Would XYZ still hold it there if they discriminated against gender or race? Where does XYZ draw the line to stand for core values versus losing a monetary deposit?
Thank you for your stand !
In Quebec, Canada, on a recent talk show, a popular host brought on two children and, in a q&a session, coerced them to say that the unvaccinated spread disease, that you should call the police and place them in jail....millions saw this.
