Our lives are filled with very special moments. Moments that bring us to tears, moments that we shout for joy and moments that take our breath away. These moments are small and fleeting in the overall timeframe of our lives but these moments are what our memory holds and we can often relive those moments like it happened yesterday…..your wedding day, the birth of your first child, seeing your child graduate from college, holding your first grandchild…to name a few.
Then there are moments where you get to do something or meet someone very special. Someone that you admire and look up to because of who they are and what they have done in their life. Many of us have heroes that we hold to this high esteem. Heroes come in all shapes and sizes. For some, a hero is a movie star with lots of fame and fortune. For others it is someone rich and famous who promotes a cause that is dear to you. And then for some of us, it is just a doctor witnessing an atrocity who had the courage and bravery to stand up and speak out about the unnecessary death and destruction. Just a doctor that has committed his entire adult life to study, to research and writing, to caring for his patients (like so many do) but was willing to sacrifice IT ALL to speak truth in an effort to save lives. Just a doctor, willing to be crucified by the media, stripped of his accolades, removed from his position as editor of journals and forced to leave the hospital he had so faithfully served. Just a doctor willing to make these sacrifices and then go on to working 7 days a week, traveling the world, missing family events to speak, to educate and to motivate people to see truth.
I had the opportunity to meet my pandemic hero. There are many doctors and scientist that I follow, that I read and watch daily as I try to as I try to put together the truth behind why nearly one million Americans died unnecessarily.
My favorite of all that I follow is Dr. Peter McCullough. This man is a freedom fighter, truth teller and life saver.
Now, I must share....I did not just get to meet Dr. McCullough. I had the opportunity to spend almost an entire day with him and the story is both embarrassing and funny, honest and inspiring. I was part of planning a fundraiser for the NC Physicians for Freedom. We were fortunate enough to secure both Dr. McCullough and Lt Governor Mark Robison. The event was held near our home so part of my job was transporting Dr. McCullough from the airport and to our events.
To say I was nervous about meeting and driving this man around would be an UNDERSTATEMENT. Gratefully, I had two friends willing to be with me at the airport to greet him properly. We stood there waiting for him and as he approached he offered us a warm, welcoming smile and shook our hands with intent and sincerity. The way he looks you in the eye when he shakes your hand, melts any anxiety about meeting this hero. He walked and talked with us as we made our way to our cars as if he had known us our entire life.
On the drive from the airport, the conversation was constant and fun. This was probably the slowest I have ever driven on Interstate 40, I was hanging on every moment to talk with this hero. To learn from him, to hear his passion for truth and admire the courage he exudes! For those of you who know me personally, this next part of my experience will make you laugh. I am a terrible hostess even when prepared and I hate cooking! Dr. McCullough and I had about two hours until our first event of the weekend and I assumed he would want to stay at his hotel room to rest before the evening. I politely offered our home as an alternative place to be until we had to drive out to Greensboro. To my delight and embarrassment, he chose our home because he was hungry. Well, with the events of the weekend I had not been to the grocery store in a week and my husband was at a job site so I could not do an SOS. I was honest and just told him all that I could offer was some leftover pizza from earlier this week. He said that was perfect! And then I fretted about figuring out how to use our new toaster oven...
I had the honor of having this man sit at my kitchen table and we talked for nearly two hours. The most compelling thing he said that so resonated with me is that we are in a spiritual battle at the moment. He agreed with me when I said this is NOT a Left vs Right issue. This is Right vs Wrong. But he went on to say that this is God vs the devil. He shared that he was raised as a Christian but was very casual in his practice of faith until about two years ago when the death and destruction started unfolding. He shared how he drew closer to Christ and how he can feel the Holy Spirit working through him as he prays before each lecture or speech. He shared how God started preparing him for this journey a decade or so ago when he recognized that he was overweight and out of shape. He started running and eventually moved onto marathons, completing one in each state. He lost weight and built up his stamina so that at the age of 60, he can literally work 7 days a week and travel all over this country and the world.
I have to add to the impact of his stamina that there is an element of what he is doing, is actually a call to duty, a fight for life and battle for freedom. Unlike going to work everyday, there is an energy God gives us to be on this journey that rivals anything else we would do with our time. Not equivalent but I feel similar to the amazing strength, bravery and courage of our founding fathers when they were fighting for the freedom to worship, the freedom to live as the best saw fit for themselves and their families and the freedom to provide a country for their posterity that would rival any other nation in this world.
The rest of the weekend was just as amazing as having Dr. McCullough sitting at our kitchen table. This man is both kind and patient, he looks you directly in the eye and you know he genuinely cares to hear what you have to say. He exudes confidence and passion, not an ounce of arrogance or entitlement. He knows we are slowly winning this battle and he encouraged us in our efforts to speak truth and our stand for freedom.
Like many of you, I often feel on an island in the town where I live. The blindness of the majority to not see the truth of what is happening is a daily challenge we face. It is painful to see people still so fearful of a virus that they have a 99.6% chance of surviving and still so willing to stick out their arm for a genetic material with no long term safety data. But, be assured because of brave men like Dr. McCullough, the truth is being revealed and our island is filling with people courageous enough to speak against the narrative. Hold your head high, smile and be encouraged!
I was afforded the opportunity to close the event after Dr. McCullough and Mark Robinson. We were born for a time such as this!
When things go badly for me, as they often do, I try to remember that God or Goddess has a higher plan, an underlying intent that I want to try to honour for my path
I know I am somebody cause God don't make no junk...
That is a quote , but I don't know from whom...
What an awesome experience and opportunity!!!!
