In my last newsletter, I covered some items to assist the priming of your immune system in an effort to be healthy this winter. In this edition, I will cover the items that I have been researching to help with early treatment of symptoms related to COVID but can also be useful for cold and Flu like symptoms.
Before we start into what to have on hand, I want to take a moment to speak about something that is critical to me in my practice of dentistry, the doctor/patient relationship! When I was early in my journey to pursue a patient centered career, I remember having conversations with my father about how he cared for his patients and the difference he was beginning to see in medicine. Medicine was slowly eliminating private doctors' offices for larger institutional type facilities that are centered on insurance networks. I remember hearing him cringe at the thought of dentistry going in that same direction. Sadly it is, but there are a few of us left that value the education we received and the opportunity to practice as we see best to treat our patients.
Doctors and dentists don't go to school for 8+ years to get out and be told how to treat people that seek our care. If this were the case, why go to school at all, anyone can be told what to do, it takes education and experience to know how to do something. After twenty plus years of practicing dentistry, I can assure you that way that I care for patients has evolved based on my experiences. I stress to my patients that the relationship that we have and the decisions we make in the treatment room, is based on their individual needs. They can read anything on the internet but specific outcomes are based on their individual health situation and detailed discussion of risks and benefits.
What I have seen unfold in the last 18 months is a situation where doctors who were actively trying to learn and treat their patients, were told they could not use their best judgement and scientific discovery to facilitate care. If they did, they were either fired or threatened to have their license revoked. Many, fearful of these outcomes, succumbed to the corporate entity and did as they were told and sadly, many, many lives were lost due to a failure to treat.
The intent of this email is to help navigate the onset of symptoms this winter and hopefully avoid at all cost having to go to the hospital. Remember, I am only a dentist and I offer this information as how my family and I have prepared. I would encourage you to talk to your doctor!
1. Molecular Iodine Nasal Spray Iodine has been used in medicine for centuries but only recently am I learning of its broader use to be more than just a surface disinfectant. The Frontline Covid Critical Care group recommends as part of their treatment protocol an iodine nasal swab or spray. Iodine solutions have increasing virucidal benefits with increasing molecular iodine concentrations. ioTech International has a nasal spray that can be used following the FLCCC protocol of an iodine nasal mist used 4x daily.

2. Vitamin D There are many studies that demonstrate that low Vitamin D levels have a direct correlation to COVID outcomes. Correlation does not mean causation but the signal is certainly strong! The FLCCC protocol recommends increasing your Vitamin D supplementation when symptomatic.
Increase dosing to Vitamin D 5000 IU/day
3. Vitamin C There is evidence that indicates that oral vitamin C may reduce the duration of respiratory infections. Vitamin C also demonstrates beneficial antiviral effects on both the innate and adaptive immune systems. Once you are demonstrating symptoms, you want to increase your daily dosing. This is a water soluble vitamin, excess is excreted.
Increase dosing to Vitamin C 1000 mg/ four times daily
4. Zinc A combination of Zinc with an ionophore (Quercetin) was shown in 2010 to inhibit the SARS coronavirus in vitro. In cell culture it also blocked viral replication within minutes. Be sure to combine this with the ionophore for best results.
Increase dosing to Zinc 100 mg/day
5. Quercetin As mentioned above, beneficial in working to assist Zinc into the cells and assist in reducing viral replication.
Increase dosing to Quercetin 250 mg/twice daily
6. Melatonin Well known for its benefits as a natural sleep regulator. Melatonin is beneficial to boost immune function in a variety of ways and help reduce inflammation.
Increase dosing to Melatonin 10 mg/before bedtime
7. Aspirin Once the SARS CoV2 virus begins to replicate and cause symptomatic immune response, one of the more concerning natures of the body's response is coagulation and blood clotting concerns. I have heard suggested that the resulting COVID pneumonia is due to micro blood clots in the lungs. Aspirin is a mild over the counter blood thinning medication and is recommended as part of treatment unless otherwise contraindicated.
Aspirin 325 mg/daily
8. Nebulized H2O2 Symptomatic COVID has many different presentations. The list of symptoms could have you thinking that you are daily coming down with COVID. Symptoms as minor as a headache, to annoying as diarrhea, to the severity of not being able to breathe. If you develop chest congestion, nebulized H2O2 can help reduce inflammation and allow for easier breathing. H2O2 is known to create an oxygen rich environment which is lethal to respiratory viruses. Below are written instructions and a video of the "how to". I will also include links on where to purchase the necessary products.
Be aware, the mainstream media is advising against this treatment. Take that for what it is worth!
Step 1: Normalized saline If you do not have this available the solution can be made using 1 tsp of salt dissolved into 16oz of distilled water.
Step 2: Food grade H2O2. If you are using a 12% solution, add 3/4 of a teaspoon to the normalized saline. If you are using a 3% food grade solution, add 3 tsps of food grade H2O2 to the normalized saline.
Keep your solution in a marked jar, in the refrigerator. When needed, you will nebulize 5cc or about 1 tsp of the solution every hour awake at the peak of your symptoms. As symptoms improve, nebulize every 4-6 hours. This treatment should not be used for prevention but it can be used prophylactically if you think you have been exposed to someone who is sick.

9. Keep Moving So much of what I have read about combating COVID, encourages keep the body moving. Obviously when we are sick, we need to rest but unfortunately if we can be still for too long. Be sure to get up and go for short walks (outdoors if you can).
During waking hours try to go for brief 5-10 minute walks every 1-2 hours
10. Fever Our body was miraculously created to naturally fight off infections. The immune system is a complex, highly functioning part of our genetic makeup that has allowed humanity to exist long prior to the development of vaccines. One amazing element of our immune response is a fever and how this calls our immune cells to action. There is certainly a balance to tolerating a low grade fever and knowing when to treat to avoid more serious side effects. I have been reading that if you can tolerate a temperature below 103, your symptoms may clear faster than if you medicate with a fever reducer. Here are couple of quotes from the cited study listed below:
“Permitting a fever in the viral condition is likely to allow your immune system to do its job – as it has been designed by millions of years of evolution – better,” says Peters.
The idea that fever might actually have medical benefits goes way back. The ancient Greek physician Hippocrates claimed that “those who cannot be cured by [medicine or] surgery can be cured by heat; and those who cannot be cured by heat are to be considered incurable”
“By increasing your body temperature, you may be slowing down the ability of a virus to multiply,” says Davis
