When I came to SF some thirty odd years ago I had a great smile, which I have lost almost entirely, but I still can smile at flowers and animals and birds, unlike people around the city that has destroyed me...

After I ran for mayor and went to jail, where they didn't allow me dental floss, I lost a tooth, and I believe my smile is more or less permanently erased within the confines of SF killafornia, at least as far as most of Womanity is concerned, with few exceptions.

I even miss my own smile, Jessica...

I hate this for you GK! For some, smiling with your eyes is the way to go when you don’t want to show your teeth. I can feel your smiles in the pictures of flowers that you share!! Animals, flowers and birds make me smile too.

I'm so sad about what has happened to SF. I remember visiting it for the first time in 1997, and being bowled over by its stunning location, distinctive architecture and bohemian vibe.

I visited three more times between 2015 and 2019, and each time was more depressing than the last. Waking up one morning to the sound of some homeless guy urinating on the wall beneath my window was the final straw. I can't see myself ever wanting to go there again; the city has lost its soul.

I too was in SF in 2019. It was downright scary at times. I hope things change because I certainly could appreciate the beauty beyond the homeless and the filth of all the trash on the streets.

My daughter was only 10 when we visited in 2015, and she was terrified of the cracked-out homeless people who would lurch up to us in the street and shout incoherently in her face.

Such a tragedy on so many levels.

Hi, love the dog picture. Consider myself fortunate to have a Golden Retriever, have wanted one for so long as they so often have such a happy smile.

Question if I may here.... am due for some extractions and I understand some anesthetics contain mRNA. Can you say if any particular local anesthetics do or don't? And if you don't without research I'd appreciate just hearing of what locals you use or recommend, as I'd like to find a dentist who uses one that's mrna free. Thank you!

A colleague of mine looked into the contamination of anesthetics and were assured by the manufacturers that the ingredients listed are what is in the product. He also followed up the the MD who pushing the concept of tainted anesthetic a with the manufacturer information, she never responded.

I personally use articaine for my local anesthetic and have not had any issues with the product for the 25 years that I have been using it.

I hope this helps!

One of the things I love most about living in a rural area, is that people spontaneously smile at strangers in the street, much more than in the city. (And I hardly see anyone looking at their wretched phone; even the teenagers make eye contact with each other, and with adults!)

Loved your smiling dog photo ☺️. Fun fact: Dogs have more fast-twitch fibres in their facial muscles compared to wolves, so they can move their facial muscles faster than wolves, which allows them to respond to human facial expressions and also make themselves look cute to us. Even dogs understand the power of a smile!

I grew up rurally and recall a similar behavior in our small town. Phones are changing everything and not for the positive. Thanks for the fun facts about dogs :)

My work for the next fluoride article prompted this one on smiling. I have had writers block getting my thoughts together to send on the latest research. Stay tuned, I think some motivation came at 3am this morning to finalize and send out in August.
